One consequence of last U.S. election's outcome is that it is a lot easier being an American abroad. Ever since 2004, whenever mom identified herself as an American, she got the dreaded question: "what are you guys doing? What were you thinking?", to which she had to reply with explanations, apologies, and theories about stolen elections.
All this is over now. No more need for explanations or apologies. Americans finally redeemed themselves. What a relief!
For how long? Who knows. Hopefully the new president will prove worthy of the people's trust. Maybe not. But that's not the point. What matters is that the American people did their duty. The first step towards change has been taken, and the rest is up to the elected officials now. We shall see...
