Long day

Today it was a very boring day for me but not for mom. First, she went to the dentist and had the last session of her tooth-canal and filling. Total: 175 leva. Yes, that's the whole amount, not a co-pay.

She came home happy, but took me out only for a short walk before she left again for school. Goldie had told her last minute she was going to teach about presentations and she was nervous because she didn't have enough time to prepare. Goldie is very nice, and when she saw mom being so stressed she told her that they didn't have to do it today, but you know mom...always a perfectionist.

So she went to class and introduced herself, like she did before (those were different students), answered questions about her life, and then gave a sample presentation. The students were assigned to do a short presentation of their favorite object, and mom gave them an example, talking about - what else - me!

The students had to bring to school their favorite object but mom, since she couldn't bring me to class, just passed around her cell phone with my picture. She talked about my looks, how she got me (or rather, how I got her!) and how we spent these last 12 years together. The students were very impressed and fascinated by the story, to mom's great surprise. They kept asking questions about me! I don't understand why she was surprised, but anyway.

Then mom talked a little bit about presentations in general. She told students that presentation skills don't pertain only to formal speeches but that they actually apply to any occasion in which they need to present themselves well. She told them about every speech having a purpose (informative, persuasive, entertaining) and that this purpose will determine the strategy and outline of the speech.

The students were mesmerized and mom was in heaven. In one of the classes mom had already introduced herself last week. During the question session one student had asked her if she planned to attend a Metallica concert in the U.S. Mom explained that she would spend the whole year in Bulgaria. Then the student told her that Metallica planned to come to Bulgaria at some point, to which mom replied that she'd gladly accept his invitation :) (No, that's not against the law in Bulgaria :)

So today mom closed her little speech about me with a dog quote from Metallica's song "Low man's lyric". She wrote it on the blackboard and waited for reactions. The student's eyes started shining and then he started stuttering, in ecstasy "this is...this is..." :))) He couldn't believe his eyes! Mom was very proud of her little trick.

With the exception of the Metallica gig, mom did the same lecture to six classes today. Some groups of students were not as interested and participated less, but overall, it was a great success. And, as if that weren't enough, Goldie took her out for a drink after school, to celebrate a successful day. (I can't believe humans! Who cares whether Sifounas hasn't been out for hours?)

At least mom is happy. Exhausted but happy. She's glad she took up the challenge and is ready for more (after a good night's sleep!)
