Mom made her first appearance in two classes yesterday and today. I'm not sure if I mentioned already that she will not have her own classes but instead she will team-teach in many classes. She's very happy about that, because it will be a lot more interesting to participate in many classes.
The first class were 8th-graders, while today's class were seniors. Very different classes, in terms of attitude (older kids were a little more detached and looked more easily bored) but both were lots of fun! The younger kids asked mom about Rocky's statue in Philadelphia, while the older kids asked her about the upcoming elections :)
Mom was impressed by the students' high level of English, the brightness and the great sense of humor. She had so much fun, that she's worried, even.
Mom has a self-appointed mentor, Goldie. Goldie is a former Bulgarian Fulbrighter, a devoted teacher, and crazy in the way that all people who click with mom are :) She's been extremely helpful so far and mom likes to hang out with her. Mom feels very lucky. So far she hasn't been lonely at all. Part of it is the life here, it makes it so easy to stay in touch with people and socialize. Mom doesn't have to plan ahead, or drive long distances. Instead, Goldie calls, asks if mom wants to go out to dinner, out we go (*of course, WE, what did you think???)
