Mom's dog-food co-op adventures, part 2

Remember mom's adventure with the fish order for the co-op? If you liked that one, you're gonna love this one (note to Me:moir: you might want to skip this post).

So, this months' specials had green tripe on the menu. You don't know what tripe is? WELL! Let me tell you! Tripe is the stomach (actually, ALL stomachs) of ruminating animals. OK, so that's not too shocking. After all, humans eat tripe, too. BUT, you eat *bleached* tripe, my human friends. *Green* tripe is the unbleached, unwashed tripe that still has all the contents in it. Yeah. Cow stomach contents: grass, hay, etc, which have been in the stomach for a while.

Are you excited yet? If not, here are some pictures. You should know that tripe is very, very good for us dogs (actually, it used to be good for you humans, too, before you got all spoiled and picky). For some of the nutritional benefits of tripe, read this.

So mom saw that the tripe was on sale, $10 per piece, so she ordered two. Two tripes. Obviously, the city girl had never seen a cow tripe before. So she went to pick up the order on Saturday and saw a big box waiting for her. A mistake, she thought. I ordered just (JUST!) two tripes...

It took her about an hour to cut the tripes in pieces in order to stuff them in the freezer, all the while cursing at me as if it is my fault that she can't tell a cow's stomach from a lamb's!

And the best part? I devoured the tripe the first two days and now I don't even want to sniff at it. I wonder what she's going to do with two freezers full of that stuff (AND some of the fish leftover from last time!)...
