Long semester

Long time, no write. And it's going to get even longer. In the last couple of weeks things have been absolutely crazy. The main reason: mom went back to school.

For those of you who forgot (the shame!), Mom was doing a masters in Education, from which she took a leave of absence to do her Fulbright in Bulgaria. She has two more classes to graduate, and she is taking both this semester. "Is she crazy?" you might ask. I would think that I've answered this question many times on this blog, but here's one more: yep, she's totally nuts. Especially since one of these classes it the thesis class, meaning she actually has to write her master thesis in order to graduate.

Enough about mom, let's get to what all this means for ME: every Monday mom leaves home at 8am and comes back at 9:30pm. I know I'm no longer incontinent, but 14 hours? WTF? And on Tuesdays, she comes back at 7pm. Not as bad as Mondays, but still. Maybe I need to start having accidents in order for her to get the message. The rest of the week, she comes home at a reasonable time, but she's so exhausted that she's totally out of commission. She sleep-walks me to the park, feeds me, and then plants herself in front of the computer to do homework.

This is how things are going to be till December. I don't know how I am going to survive yet another ordeal. I just hope she does graduate so that I don't have to go through this for even longer!

Other news: mom finally got a crew to do some minor repairs in the apartment and they are here this week. I was worried at first because of the awful noise and dust, but then they turned out to be very nice. They have changed my name from Sifounas to Fysounas, but I don't mind that much since they compensate with lots of petting.

Mom's roommate went to Princeton for these days, to avoid the construction mess. That's better for mom too, and the workers, because the apartment is a real mess. It doesn't make much difference to me, because even when she's around she doesn't care about me much, nor has she offered to help me out on Mondays when mom is at school all evening. Mom is sad because her main criterion for choosing roommates is their behavior towards me, and she had high hopes for this 'partnership' but so far it has not worked out too well. I keep telling her that we survived so much together, that she shouldn't be worried about things like that, but she doesn't listen...

Anyway, back to the construction: it's messy but going well. One of the projects is a closet in mom's bedroom - only the skeleton is up so far but she has started drooling over it already. I hope she doesn't plan to move my stuff in there, too! I like it all over the floor, thank you very much!
