Good news first: this charade is over! A new teacher has been hired so tomorrow is mom's last day as a substitute. Hurray!
And the bad news: as expected, the principal was not happy with the grades mom gave. What was not expected, however, was that she would tell students that mom's grades would be annulled. Needless to say, students came with a hell of an attitude to class today, most of them not bothering to do the required assignment. Mom is just dumbfounded by the lack of professionalism, not to mention her being used as a puppet baby-sitter as I've already mentioned.
Nevertheless, mom proceeded as planned. She announced the grades today and received students' fury and sarcasm as expected. What was most interesting though was the comments by several students: "this is not how things are in Bulgaria". This made mom wonder whether it had not been the same students who have been complaining about the educational system in Bulgaria all along. I guess change is not that welcome when it means you actually have to work for it. No surprise there.
In any case, it's one more day, after all. To mom's consolation, the 9th graders are already celebrating and looking forward to have her back. What a nice change this will be!
