I.D. card saga: episode V

If you're keeping track, you probably noticed that I skipped one episode. The reason is that it was relatively uneventful. Mom went back to the police station with the corrected affidavit, submitted it, and was told that she should be back next Wednesday. Well, the exact sentence was a lot longer, but Mom is certain that the word Wednesday was there.

So she went back today (Thursday), accompanied by Vasco. The first bad sign was the long line. The last four times she was there there were no more than 2 people ahead of her, but now there were quite a few. After a long wait, she got to the employee's desk. The employee was the same as last time. You'd think she would remember mom. You'd be wrong. She claimed that the number written on mom's passport was wrong and had not been updated, so she couldn't find her file. Hmm. Then she pretended to look around and finally said that the papers are not ready and that mom should go back on Monday.

Mom tried to get some more information but in vain. Vasco, being too young and inexperienced in dealing with bureaucrats, was not in the mood for translating mom's questions. So mom had to leave the station unclear as to whether the problem was that the file number was wrong, that the papers were not ready, and whether they would be ready on Monday.

To be continued...
