the variety of my posts these days is amazing.
So, on Tuesday night Phila got another gazillion inches of snow. It snowed all night Tuesday and all day Wednesday. Things were so bad that - brace yourselves - UPenn closed for two whole days. TWO DAYS! Facebook status updates and photo album titles went from "Snowpocalypse" to "The Day Penn Closed"...brrrrr.....
Some pics here.
According to the Daily Pennsylvanian, this hasn't happened since 1994. Mom thinks that this would not have happened now either, if it weren't for the mayor's call to the private business sector to give employees the two days off. Yay for the mayor!
Well, it didn't make too much difference for me. Sure, mom was home, but only in flesh. For the most part of the day she vegetated in front of the computer, watching every tv show she could find on Netflix Instant Watch and eating junk food (that's right, while I AM on a diet!)
When we did go out, I was in for an unpleasant surprise: Clark Park had been usurped! Every time there is snow, all sorts of people remember that there is a park in the neighborhood and come to sled. Which is fine, but... for one thing, many of these people only come to the park once or twice a year, therefore they are not familiar with the park's regulars, i.e. me and my fellow 4-legged buddies. So, when they see dog interactions at the park they freak out, thinking we're fighting while we are just socializing (and, might I say, often in a more civilized manner than our human counterparts). Then, they leave their trash everywhere, because most likely they won't be back any time soon, unless it snows again, so they couldn't care less. Right now Clark Park is a wasteland of cardboard boxes, trashcan lids and other objects that have been used as sleds, beer cans and bottles, along with some lost/dropped objects such as scarves, hats, gloves, and cell phones. I would say "PIGS!" but that would be unfair to pigs, as I've heard that pigs are really clean animals. Pffftt!
In spite of such adversities, I managed to get a couple of good runs in the snow (till I got one of the usual blisters between my toes, arghhh) and mom even sled a couple of times with a borrowed sled. Hard-core, I tell you!
